Moving into Life

My latest reading "find" is a book by a Feldenkrais practitioner, Anat Baniel, which I have used as my post title today.

Having trained with Moshe in the 70's, Ms. Baniel's interpretation Feldenkrais' teachings has far reaching implications into the psychology of vitality and human potential.  In addition, she has worked extensively with children who have multiple challenges (including cerebral palsy) and those with injury.

She names nine essentials  for you brain to thrive well into old age which are:
  1. Moving with attention-wake up to life
  2. The learning switch-bring in the new
  3. Subtlety-experience the power of gentleness
  4. Variation-enjoy abundant possibilities
  5. Slow-luxuriate in the richness of feeling
  6. Enthusiasm-turn the small into the great
  7. Flexible goals-make the impossible possible
  8. Imagination and dreams-create you life
  9. Awareness-thrive with true knowledge
Though  read two chapters today, out of a great burst of enthusiasm for the subject, I will focus in this writing on the first.
I have been spending the day thinking about my movement.  When I walk, I am trying my best to see how my pelvis tilts and twists, as well as how the back, shoulders and stomach all come into play.  I notice how this attention has made my mind seem more alert, less frazzled.  I come to this work rampant anxiety and self-doubt so there is no where to go but up.

I have been feeling disorganized about my choreographic work until I came upon the lyrics from a song Louis Armstrong sang and embodied in his art:

It ain't what you do it the way how you do it, that what gets results!

Today from the chaos of my notes, ideas and plans, I will use my power of attention to organize to help me continue to feel fully alive in my work and my life.
